Dr. Kaitlyn Benko, Doctor of Chiropractic, treats back and neck pain, headaches and joint problems at Crowchild Physiotherapy in Brentwood Village. Chiropractic care here sits alongside physiotherapy and massage therapy, so your treatment is planned with the rest of your care rather than in isolation. What happens at your first chiropractic visit

  1. 1

    History and goals

Your chiropractor asks what is bothering you, how it started and what you want to get back to, along with your health history and anything that might change how we treat.

  2. 2

    Examination

Movement, posture, joint function, nerve tests and strength. If imaging would change the plan, you are referred for it rather than treated blind.

  3. 3

    Explanation and plan

You hear what was found, what the options are, and roughly how many visits to expect.

  4. 4

    Treatment

Usually at the first visit, once you have agreed to the plan.

Allow up to an hour for your first visit; you complete a short intake form at the clinic when you arrive.

Chiropractic treatment at Crowchild

  • Spinal and joint adjustments. Quick, controlled movements that restore motion to a stiff joint.
  • Soft-tissue techniques for tight muscles around the joint.
  • Exercise and movement advice, so improvement holds between visits.
  • Advice on work set-up, sleep and activity.

You are always told what a technique involves before it is used, and you can ask for an alternative.

What is the "pop" during an adjustment?

The sound is gas releasing from the fluid inside a joint as it moves through its range, much like cracking your knuckles. It is not bone grinding and nothing is being "put back in place"; an adjustment can work without any sound at all. If the idea of the sound puts you off, say so; gentler techniques are available.

Chiropractor or physiotherapist?

Both are regulated health professions that treat back, neck and joint pain, and many people benefit from both. Chiropractic care centres on adjusting and mobilizing joints; physiotherapy leans more on exercise, hands-on treatment and rehabilitation. At Crowchild you can see either, and because Dr. Benko and our physiotherapists share one clinic, they can plan your care together and refer you between them without a new intake. Physiotherapy →

Insurance and direct billing

We bill most benefit plans directly; chiropractic treatment after a car accident is billed to your auto insurer, and after a workplace injury to WCB.

Questions about chiropractic care

Anything else? Send us a request and the front desk will get back to you. Open 7 days a week, weekdays until 7 pm.

Do I need a referral?
No. You can book directly, and most benefit plans reimburse chiropractic care without a doctor's note.
Is chiropractic treatment safe?
Chiropractic is a regulated profession in Alberta. Dr. Benko screens for anything that would change the approach and uses the gentlest technique that works. Mild soreness for a day after a first adjustment is common and settles on its own.
How many visits will I need?
You get an estimate at the first visit and it is reviewed as you progress. We do not sell blocks of visits.
Will I need X-rays?
Most back and neck pain does not need imaging. If the examination suggests imaging would change your care, your chiropractor explains why and arranges a referral.
Are you open on Sundays, and can I walk in?
The clinic is open seven days a week; Dr. Benko's own days are listed above. Walk-ins are welcome when a clinician is free; calling first reserves a time.
Can I see a chiropractor after a car accident?
Yes. Chiropractic care is covered under Alberta's auto injury rules and billed to your insurer; it often runs alongside physiotherapy. Car accident care →
